The Turkish Competition Authority's 2024 Mergers and Acquisitions Overview Report Published

The "Turkish Competition Authority 2024 Merger and Acquisition Overview Report," prepared within the scope of data on mergers, acquisitions, and privatization transactions finalized by the Turkish Competition Board in 2024, has been published on the Authority's official website.

According to the information provided in the report:

  • The Competition Authority examined 311 merger and acquisition transactions in 2024.
  • Excluding privatizations, 131 transactions involved target companies established in Turkey, with a total transaction value of 191 billion 917 million TL (5.86 billion USD).
  • The value of the 6 privatization transactions examined amounted to approximately 31 billion 363 million TL (957 million USD).
  • Among the examined transactions, 164 involved mergers and acquisitions carried out abroad by foreign entities, with a reported total transaction value of 17 trillion 186 billion TL (524.35 billion USD).
  • Of the 311 mergers and acquisitions examined by the Authority:
    • 75 transactions involved parties entirely of Turkish origin,
    • 167 transactions involved parties entirely established under foreign laws,
    • and 53 transactions involved at least one party of both Turkish and foreign origin.
  • In 2024, foreign investors proposed investments in 47 merger and acquisition transactions involving Turkish-origin companies. According to the ranking of foreign investors by transaction count, Dutch investors ranked first with 7 transactions.
  • In terms of economic activity, for transactions where the target company was of Turkish origin:
    • The most frequent transactions occurred in the fields of "computer programming, consultancy, and related activities" and "electricity generation, transmission, and distribution."
    • The highest transaction value was observed in "retail trade conducted outside of stores, stalls, and marketplaces."
  • Among privatization transactions, the highest transaction value was recorded in the field of "culture, arts, entertainment, recreation, and sports."
  • Finally, in 2024, mergers and acquisitions reported to the Competition Authority were finalized on average 12 days after the date of the last notification, and 2 transactions were subject to final examination during the year.
